The Journey So Far

Over 5000 people have been exposed to the installation in a variety of locations and audiences:

  • Oct. 2019 Toronto - Whole Campus, Healthy Communities Conference hosted by the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health in assoc. with                                      CMHA Ontario - Campus Mental Health https://campusmentalhealth.ca/conference-2019/

  • Sept. 2019 N. Ont. - Fireside Conference – Created a "Fireside" version in the open air by the lake and a warm fire (www.firesideconference.com)

810 people "stopped time, sat down, and had a conversation with themselves"

301 people wrote comments on their experience; sharing how they felt and inner thoughts

363 people provided contact info to stay in touch and follow the Installation's journey

  • Conversations are being arranged with U of T, Ryerson University and others to explore placement

  • Companies are considering it for use at key events to promote and support mental health in the workplace as part of their Workplace Mental Health Programs

  • It's been suggested for installation in public spaces including Museums, Harbourfront, The Distillery and Brookfield Place

  • It has been invited to a 1000 Student High School in Toronto in 2020

  • Conversations have started with Architects, Builders and Property Companies in Canada/US on collaboration to design/build it into new Public/Office/Academic spaces

  • I have a growing circle of mental health advisors to:

    • help guide the creation of/access to support tools and the information to be provided should people require this after experiencing the installation

    • provide ad hoc input on the installation, any new elements and the design of research to track and report on positive impacts

  • A new installation element outside the installation is being created with a digital screen that includes " If in Crisis..." messaging as part of our Duty of Care Plan. The element will also be a gateway to a range of mental health services and resources including apps, new technology, on-line and existing on-the ground resources for everyone who experiences the installation. It's being designed to "help people find and self-select what they need...when they need it.” This direction to support options/services will be integrated with existing Campus and Workplace services and policies. For public spaces, it will offer a wide range of options - many of them free.

The experience is not prescriptive and is not created to diagnose – it’s a safe space that creates an accessible and approachable way into conversations about mental wellness, health and resilience based on art and experiential self-discovery.

  • I’m also seeking sponsors and funding for the installation to offset costs. If there's someone in your network who might consider sponsorship in conjunction with an event around mental health or the wider vision for A Conversation With Myself, please connect us
